Goodbye (for now?) to Tuck Magazine and Coffin Bell Journal

Addendum: I am pleased Coffin Bell Journal IS publishing again.  Always glad when literary journals survive.  It can be read here: Coffin Bell.

Two LOVELY journals I was published in during the last year have closed their internet doors/ sites. I am sad about this, for each brought a different  point of view to the world. One was very political and one was very psychological. Sad about this, but hoping their words last out there.

Good bye (for now?) to Tuck Magazine and Coffin Bell. The first published some of my political poetry and the second a feminist poem disguised as a horror story.

After a Week of Rejections–“Saltwater Faces” to be Published by High Shelf Press

advertisements batch blur business    It’s been a week of rejections, including one I waited SIX MONTHS for, at the journal of my dreams.  That one stung, and I know I need to improve, rewrite, revise, and rework my poetry if I am to ever publish there.  And then…after four rejections, an acceptance of a poem I had a lot of fun writing.

The background: I took a short class at the Art Institute of Chicago this autumn, but I missed one class since I FELL RUNNING FOR THE TRAIN and managed to end up in urgent care. Graceful I am not. But for the class I attended, I wrote a poem based on a prompt, a double sort of persona ekphrastic poem, with persons in one painting talking to persons in another. I am pleased to learn that High Shelf Press will publish this poem, “Saltwater Faces,” soon–in their debut edition.

Thanks for reading.

After a Rough Summer of Submissions–Finally Positive Publication News

After a rough summer of submissions and many “declined” (rejections), I am pleased to learn my poem “Herstory Lesson” will be published by Coffin Bell Journal on October 1st.  I’ll put up a link when it’s published, but for now, the journal can be found here: https://coffinbell.com/.

I don’t write in the genre they publish, dark literature, very often, but I did my research, read there (fun!), and decided some of my work does fit.  Phew, because I was correct.  While I wrote this poem as feminist poetry, about killing women, it did fit the genre of dark literature.

(And now this post is longer than the poem!)

Lesson learned? Read before submitting, read more, think creatively, and keep on submitting!

Thanks for reading.
