“Red Halo” Published Today in Prometheus Dreaming

I am thrilled to have a  poem published in a dream journal, Prometheus Dreaming. The editor treats writers and their work so well and the work is presented beautifully. As I sent a poem I truly love and was very close/ personal to me.

Red Halo

I did not want to find you
by the mud flats
where things live that
I always want to see:
heron, fox, cardinal, hawk.

But the sun broke shadows
wildflowers bloomed late this year
brown eyed susans, sunflowers
unnamed purple velvet.

I did not want to find you
standing across the river
staring west into a sunset
you’d hoped would take you, too.

I do not know
how the red halo encircled
my pale face, peeked through
the weeds and the dirt.

Happy to have a poem published today (“Devastation”) at Headline Poetry.


The history of the poem arises from when I taught ELL years ago.  It was around 2002.  I taught with a colleague who was a refugee from Sarajevo. She survived the siege–and the stories she told still haunt me.

Poem here.img_4809             ***Edited/ revised to add–I am sorry to learn this journal has ceased publishing.  It is simply not to be found anymore.  I enjoyed reading what they published.


I was pleased to learn a poem, “Where You Are Not,” is to be published in Esthetic Apostle this week.  Great to wake up to pleasant news.


It was written during a time of grief, and as I have returned to such a time, it was fitting to send this poem out into the world.

No Tokens Literary Journal
					


	

	

	

		
spines      No Tokens Journal declares it is “…a journal celebrating work that is felt in the spine”  and it can be found here, at No Tokens Journal.


Reading that reminds me of what Emily Dickinson wrote about poetry, that “If I read a book and it makes my whole body so cold no fire could ever warm me, I know that is poetry.” (http://notable-quotes.com/d/dickinson_emily.html).


No Tokens publishes a print/ bound volume as well as an online journal, making it doubly interesting, in my opinion.  They publish fiction, nonfiction, poetry, art, and “other,” which could include include plays, comics, graphic novels, interviews, etc.


The journal’s passion for great writing is evident, right down to when they declare they will ask for NO TOKENS (no submission fees) while they promise to be a journal:


“…featuring the words and artwork of all voices of the past, present, and future.”


I love this passion for words, stories, voices.


I think I will give them a try.
