Hilarious. I submitted a 53-word short story, not even flash fiction (more like whatwasthat fiction) here: 53-word story contest at Press Fifty-three.
What fun! Why not give a read there and try entering. Come on! Even I could write a 53-word story.
Erm….that’s usually just one of my quotations in a story or poem, so this was good practice!

Why Strangers Wept
Did darkness heal or was it
holding hands at noon
with a small boy who
needed a nap?
Was it the sun
or the silence of the moon
that lifted it all, just a bit.
Maybe it was someone
who remembers
the smaller child and knew
why strangers wept.
On the street, a young girl
skipped then ran then walked
while humming, purple ribbon
escaping black hair.
Thirteen poems and one piece of nonfiction are “out” for consideration. I’ve submitted to established literary journals as well as journals about to publish their FIRST issue!
My goal, however, is to read and write more. That’s how I can learn and grow as a writer and a person, I believe. While it’s fun to submit, it can overtake the important activities of actually reading good literature and writing more.
Do you find submitting pieces of writing helps your writing or hinders it?

Walking in the rain can be joyful…lots of critter and birds… the car is not mine, fortunately. It’s flooded all around me, but that is someone else’s car.
Enjoy. Beauty everywhere.
For those of you who like summer, enjoy! Me? I get sick in heat and humidity and the skeeters LOVE ME… no matter what I do, I spend the summer bitten by mosquitoes.
But I very much enjoy the sunshine and interesting shadows. Oh, and the summer clouds. So interesting…and seeing bats drop out of trees and fly away, and seeing lightning bugs flash, flash, flash…and hearing birds.
I guess I love much about summer after all.
What’s your favorite season and why? Or what’s your favorite part of each season?
Winter: crisp stark beauties of snow, crisp clean air. (But oh! The darkness really affects my mood.)
Spring: the returning light. The birds, the trees, the flowers. The return of those great spring sounds.
Summer: sunshine and color.
Autumn: the colors of fall–those lovely gold and red leaves in sunshine.
